Eczema (atopic dermatitis) is a chronic skin condition affecting millions globally, including many residents in Qatar. The combination of extreme heat, cold indoor air conditioning, and dry desert air creates a uniquely challenging environment for eczema sufferers.
Eczema is a chronic inflammatory skin condition characterized by dry, itchy, inflamed skin. It's not contagious and involves a compromised skin barrier that allows moisture to escape and irritants to enter. While there's no cure, eczema can be managed effectively with the right approach.
Use only fragrance-free, soap-free cleansers. Avoid hot showers — use lukewarm water. Limit bathing to 5-10 minutes. After bathing, gently pat dry without rubbing.
Moisturize within 3 minutes of bathing (the "soak and seal" method). For eczema, thicker formulas work better. Key moisturizing ingredients: ceramides (repair the skin barrier), colloidal oatmeal (soothes inflammation and itch), shea butter (occlusive and soothing), glycerin (draws moisture into skin).
During flare-ups: hydrocortisone cream (1%) can reduce mild inflammation. Colloidal oatmeal baths soothe intense itch. For severe flares, consult a dermatologist.
Wear loose, breathable cotton clothing. Stay cool — heat triggers sweating which worsens eczema. Use a humidifier indoors to counteract AC dryness. Keep nails short to minimize skin damage from scratching.
There is no cure for eczema, but it can go into long periods of remission with proper management.
Fragrance-free ceramide creams or ointments are ideal. Apply immediately after bathing. Browse our sensitive skin collection at Niche Trading Qatar with fast delivery and COD across Qatar.
